TAMMY: My whole life I can never remember having a smile. My children have good teeth. But I don’t, and I can’t say that there’s something I like about my smile because there isn’t a smile. When I’m going to smile, I’ll do that because I have a tooth that is missing. Part of it’s missing, and so it’s I more obvious. And so you bring your hand to your mouth, or you talk with your lips kind of closed. They started breaking, and so I would try to superglue it back so I wouldn’t embarrass my children. My family is wonderful. I have two daughters. I have a 22-year old daughter who was just married. And I have a 15-year old some and a 10-year old daughter. And I also have a brand new grandson.

I’m 38-years old, and I do not remember when the last time was that I smiled properly without covering my mouth with my hand. When I got married, my husband didn’t believe dentists were a good place to spend money, and my teeth continued to deteriorate. Add to that the yellow coloring from smoking for 20 years and that this is what is left. In my personal life, this made me very embarrassed about taking pictures at all. My children become very upset with me because I refuse to have my picture taken. My daughter and her husband just gave me a beautiful grandson in January.

JENNIFER: She wants to be able to take a picture with her grandson and to enjoy life and not have to constantly worry about, “Okay, are people seeing my teeth?”

TAMMY: You can’t portray your whole self if you’re always thinking about covering up your mouth. It’d be so cool to smile, you know? Just to smile and show my teeth, that’d be just awesome!
