Tammy’s New Smile

Tammy is so excited about her new smile.
TAMMY: I left here, and I went immediately to my daughter’s house. And she just opened the door, and all I did was stand there smiling. And she just had tears in her eyes. It was so awesome. And then again we just jumped up and down hugging.
I went walking around out in the mall, and it’s always packed. And so there’s so many people. But, it was—it was very freeing. It was like being set free, totally. All these people and people were smiling and I was smiling back.
JENNIFER: My mom’s new smile is amazing. She is so much more self-confident. She smiles so much more. It’s just—it radiates her personality more now than it did before.
DANNY: Now she smiles for the first time. And she likes talking to people, and she’s always happy and always cheerful.
JENNIFER: She says she’s more self-confident. She feels better. She—we had a family picture last week that we took, and she smiled. It was great to be able to have that. I’m so looking forward to just the future and knowing that her grandson’s going to have pictures, that we can go out in public and she can be proud of herself and of her smile and not be self-conscious.
DANNY: Before, she’d cover it up or not even smile at all, just force her mouth closed. But now it’s wide open smile.
JENNIFER: Dr. Simmons’ work is pure art. Not every dentist can do that. It’s just—to do that and to transform her smile into something radiant that she can be proud of is—is art. It’s just something that you don’t see every day. Not everyone has that. Not everyone has that ability.
TAMMY: I feel happy on the outside and on the inside. I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s going to impact. I know that—I know that my daughter tells me that it’s really neat to see me talk and laugh without being self conscious any more. My confidence is at a level that I haven’t had since I think I was 18 years old. Life, there’s just a lot of life left to live and a lot of fun to have with the kids.
DR. DENNIS SIMMONS: When Tammy first came to us, she’d been this way for so long and was so self conscious about it that her smile actually drooped on the right side. She actually psychologically changed how the muscles of her face went by trying to hide the condition she was in, and that’s how it was affecting her.
TAMMY: Dr. Simmons is just—he’s amazing. He’s so funny. And he’s really, truly gentle. He—slightest anything, and he stops right away and makes sure that you’re comfortable. That is his whole goal is to make you comfortable. And he gets so excited about the teeth you’d think he was doing his own teeth. I have everything that I was hoping to get out of it, I got out of it plus some.
